A neighbor in Bucks County

Diane

Doylestown · Bucks Buzz · 19 years

Diane came to Doylestown for a shorter commute and stayed because the town kept giving her a job. She raised two kids within walking distance of the County Theater. She still chairs the school book sale, which is how she knows every paperback in a three-mile radius.

She writes the way she talks over a fence. What opened. What closed. Which walk is worth the hill. She does not pretend the county seat is a secret. She just notices the part you miss if you only drive through for a hearing.

When her youngest left for school, the letters gave her a reason to keep walking the same blocks with a pen in her bag.

What Diane likes to do

Sorting donations for the book sale, Friday nights at the County Theater, and taking the long way up toward Fonthill.

Favorites around Doylestown

Personal picks, not partners. None of these places asked to be here.

Coffee
The window table across from the County Theater. She likes to watch the line before the lights go down.
A walk
The hill up to Fonthill, then back down through the residential streets that still have their porches.
The market
The Doylestown Farmers Market. She goes for the flowers and stays for whoever she has not seen since last week.
A diner booth
The diner out on the Pike, late breakfast after the book sale shift, when her feet are done.
An event they never miss
Friday night at the County Theater. She still buys the small popcorn and sits where she sat when the kids were small.

What Diane loves writing about

Park once. Walk the rest. That is how this town talks to you.
